Invented in 1963 by Basil Watermeyer from Johannesburg, the princess diamond is square in shape. Inspired by its forerunner, the Barion cut, the princess works best with deep stones, allowing maximum weight retention.
It is second in popularity after the round and also comes in a rectangular fashion. The princess cut has naturally higher light dispersion than ordinary square diamonds and any inclusions are less visible, making it more attractive than other shapes. |
